John Lewis Oil Painting 19th Century

The Close of Day, Worcestershire Meadows, a very nice early 19th century oil painting by John Lewis.  An English rural scene of a church and shepherds with their sheep in the back ground. This scene has striking similarities to a painting by Benjamin Williams Leader 1836-1923 which he painted in 1900. In fact the two paintings are very nearly identical yet painted 50 to 80 years apart by the two different artists.  Benjamin Williams Leader’s The Close of Day, Worcestershire Meadows, his version of this painting sold at Sotheby’s auction in December 2009 for £32,450.  (C)151011  (Not Available)
