The Age of Innocence, Mezzotint Engraving by Samuel Cousins

The Age of Innocence dated 1874, a Second State Mezzotint Engraving Signed Artists Proof by Samuel Cousins 1801-1887. Samuel Cousins was one of the Great Engravers of the 19th century, engraving plates of paintings after many eminent artists like Sir Joshua Reynolds. This Mezzotint engraving is thought to be of Lady Ann Spencer, the youngest daughter of the 4th Earl of Marlborough, which Sir Joshua Reynolds painted around 1788.  The Mezzotint is thought to be from a limited run of 275 artist’s proof’s issued and is signed Samuel Cousins in pencil in the margin and dated 1874 at the top.  The frame measures: 510ml. H.  x   400ml. W. and the Mezzotint engraving also bears the blind stamp of the Print Sellers Association.   (click on picture for larger image)      See Payment Options.        (D)041210
